Vehicles in German City Discovered Marked with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a resident who discovered a car in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say early analysis show the fluid was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.

A senior political figure said the vandalism made him stunned and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
